A new carton recycling milestone has been reached. One of the world’s fastest growing packages, the carton, can now be recycled in 45% of U.S. households. In just four years, we have seen an increase of 150% across the country and an impressive 52.5 million U.S. households now have access to carton recycling.
More recycling options means more recycling and we all know the benefits this brings to our communities, companies and industry.
A few quick facts:
- Through September 6, a total of 52,544,210 households have access to carton recycling — a 45.0% national access rate.
- 4.2 million MORE households have access to carton recycling than they did at the start of this year.
- 64 of the largest 100 cities in the U.S. now offer carton recycling.

Along with its many partners, the Carton Council continues to make tremendous progress and are even closer to reaching 50%, 60% and beyond.
