The Carton Council of North America is proud to announce that carton recycling has reached a major milestone and is now considered mainstream! Food and beverage carton recycling is available to 60 percent of U.S. households - a substantial majority of consumers, which means that cartons can now carry the standard “Please Recycle” logo, according to the Federal Trade Commission green guidelines.
This achievement has been the result of strong public-private partnerships and years of hard work to build an infrastructure for recycling cartons. A sincere thanks to everyone who has been part of this effort: MRFs, local governments, carton recyclers and the industry stakeholders who worked with us along the way to reach this important milestone. This achievement would never have been possible without your efforts!
- 70,029,775 households
- 12,500 U.S. communities
- 82 of top 100 U.S. markets
As we look ahead in 2017, know that our focus is stronger than ever and we’ll continue to help those in the recycling, packaging, food and beverage industries recognize and reap the rewards from cartons being a mainstream recyclable material and a sustainable packaging choice. Leveraging the strong foundation built with significant access, the Carton Council remains committed to advancing sustainable carton recycling in the U.S. and increasing carton recycling rates.
Thank you again for your support in these united efforts. This progress would not be possible without the continued network of stakeholder support.
