America Recycles Day (ARD), November 15, is quickly approaching! ARD is the perfect opportunity to educate and remind residents about recycling, and the recyclability of cartons. Having cartons as an accepted material in recycling programs brings greater convenience to residents and helps move communities closer to achieving Zero Waste and sustainability goals.
Access to carton recycling is growing fast, with more than 45 percent of U.S. households now able to recycle cartons through their curbside and drop-off recycling programs. Cartons are an extremely environmentally friendly package, more so than even an egg! Made mainly from a renewable resource, cartons are lightweight and compact in design, and have a low carbon footprint, which gives them a high package-to-product ratio.
Whether cartons are a longtime accepted material or a new addition to your program, the Carton Council wants to help in your ARD outreach by providing some materials that can be easily adapted for your community:
- Sample Op-Ed:Op-eds are a great way to get exposure in your community. Just fill in the blanks and send it off to your local newspaper editor.
- Newsletter/Website Copy: Make sure to include information about carton recycling in your newsletters and on your program website, and remind residents that cartons are an accepted material.
- Infographics: The image above about cartons versus eggs is available for download from our Insider Access Resource Library, in addition to other infographics that visually communicate carton recycling facts. Use them on your website, in your newsletter or share via social media to get the word out to residents – wherever you would like!
